Poinciana is a famous jazz piece played by Ahmad Jamal. Its vivid rhythms and improvisation played on his black and white keys were a vivid inspiration for and why I worked on this piece. Because of it I was actually able to see those magical sounds and transform them into forms, poetic taps, and musical slashes. I later learned that a poinciana is also an umbrella shaped tree with red leaves from Madagascar.
